How to Host the DrawRoom's Game Mode
If you have not yet created a set, please read the articles How to Manually Create a Set and/or How to Import a Set before beginning. These articles are linked at the bottom.
1. Select DrawRoom from the top menu bar and then select Game Mode.
2. Adjust the activity settings and then select Start DrawRoom.
A. Require Student Login
Only enable this option if students have Charlala accounts. This setting will only allow students with Charlala accounts linked to your teacher account to join the activity. This setting cannot be changed later.
B. Lock to Specific Class
This option is only available if require student login is enabled. This setting will only allow students enrolled in the selected class to join the activity. This setting cannot be changed later.
C. Choose Set
Choose the set for the DrawRoom activity.
D. Allow Stickers
This setting allows students to add emojis and pre-selected stickers to their drawing canvas. Stickers help students quickly create drawings and make the activity more enjoyable for those that are "artistically challenged."
E. Music
If selected, the activity is accompanied with music when appropriate (during the waiting room and drawing times). This setting can be changed later.
F. Draw Timer
This setting projects a countdown timer when students are drawing to help pace the activity. The activity does not automatically advance when the timer reaches 0. The teacher manually advances to the next step, so additional time can be added if necessary. This setting can be changed later.
F. Guess Timer
This setting projects a countdown timer when students are guessing each drawing's term/prompt. The activity will automatically advance when the timer reaches 0.
3. Direct students to visit charlala.com/draw and enter the room code at the top of your screen.
4. As students join the activity, their names will appear. You may hover and click on a name to remove a student from the activity. After all students are logged in, you may optionally lock the DrawRoom to prevent additional students from joining. Select Start in the top right when ready.
5. On the teacher's device, wait for students to submit their drawings. On the student's device, students will receive a drawing prompt from the set selected during step 2. Students should draw this prompt/term on their device and then select Submit when finished.
6. After all student drawings have appeared (verify in the top left) or time has run out, select End Drawing in the top right to move forward in the activity.
7. Optional: Identify your favorite drawings to be viewed first in the next step of the activity by selecting the Star beneath each drawing. Please note, all drawings will be included in the next part of the activity, but favorited drawings will be shown first.
A. Reveal Eye
Show the artist/student's name.
B. Star
Select this drawing as a favorite to be viewed first in the next part of the activity.
C. Enlarge Square
Enlarge the drawing for a more in-depth conversation.
D. Delete
Delete the drawing because it is inappropriate or distracting.
E. Download
Download the drawing for future activities.
8. On student devices, students should interpret the drawing and guess the correct prompt/term. After all guesses are submitted (verified in the top left) or time has run out (top center), you should select End Drawing in the top right. Please note, if the guess timer is enabled, the activity will automatically advance when the timer reaches 0.
9. Review the results with your students in the target language, making a connection between the prompt/term and drawing. After, you may continue with the next drawing by selecting Next Drawing in the top right and repeat step 8-9. To start a new round, select Next Drawing Round in the top right. Students will be given a new drawing prompt and you will repeat steps 5-9 with the next round of drawings. The activity may be repeated for a maximum of 5 rounds. After the activity is complete, select End Activity in the top right.
10. After ending the activity, you may review the leaderboard, download a game report, download/review any drawing, or return to your account dashboard.
A. Leaderboard
The leaderboard displays three leader boards. The digital artist award is based on how many votes their artwork received, the art curator award is based on correctly selecting the winning masterpieces, and the overall results are a combination of both awards.
B. Game Report
View and download a report card of how well students interpreted each term to guide future instruction. See step 11.
C. All Drawings
View and download any drawing from the activity for future conversations and activities.
D. Return to Account
Return to your Charlala account if you want to host another activity in the DrawRoom.
11. Optional: To download a game report card, select Game Report from the top menu and then select Download Game Data.
