How to Create a Story Assignment
If you have not yet created a story, please read the article How to Create a Story before beginning.
1. Select Assignments from the top menu bar and then select New Assignment.
2. Select Story.
3. Complete the assignment information and then select Next at the bottom.
A. Assignment Name
The assignment name will be visible to students and used to identify assignments in the teacher and student dashboards.
B. Assignment Directions
Assignment directions are optional and will be visible to students before beginning an assignment.
C. Due Date
Optional due date to identify when assignments are overdue.
D. Privacy Settings
Public assignments are for students without Charlala accounts and can only be shared with a direct assignment link. Private assignments should be used when students have Charlala accounts. Private assignments are assigned directly to classes and will appear in the student dashboards - private assignments will not produce a shareable link.
4. Locate the story you want students to interact with and select Add to Assignment. You may also select the grey eye button to preview the story before adding it.
5. Change the assignment's feedback settings and select Next at the bottom. These settings can be changed later on.
A. Text Feedback
Text feedback is optional and allows you to provide written feedback/comments for student responses.
B. Rubric Feedback
Rubric feedback is also optional and allows you to provide feedback using a rubric.
C. Choose a Rubric
Choose the rubric you want to use for feedback. This option is only visible if rubric feedback is selected.
D. Feedback Style
Choose whether you want to provide feedback on the overall assignment or for each story part (e.g., a story with 6 parts will have 6 separate places for written and/or rubric feedback). This option is only visible if you are providing text and/or rubric feedback.
6. Complete the final assignment settings and select Create at the bottom.A. Show Text
Enable this option if you want the story's written text to be visible to students. Only disable this option if this story has audio and you want to create an interpretive listening activity.
B. Show Audio
Only enable this option if this story has audio. Enabling audio will allow students to listen to each story part's audio.
C. Allow Stickers
This setting allows students to add emojis and pre-selected stickers to their drawing canvas. Stickers help students quickly create summaries and make the activity more enjoyable for those that are "artistically challenged."
7. Congratulations! You successfully created a story assignment. If you created a Public assignment, you may copy and share the link with your students. For Private assignments, there is an option to assign the assignment to one or multiple classes.
