How to Create a Conversation Assignment
If you have not yet created a conversation, please read the article How to Create a Conversation before beginning. This article is linked at the bottom.
1. Select Assignments from the top menu bar and then select New Assignment.
2. Select Conversation.
3. Complete the assignment information and then select Next at the bottom.
A. Assignment Name
The assignment name will be visible to students and used to identify assignments in the teacher and student dashboards.
B. Assignment Directions
Assignment directions are optional and will be visible to students before beginning an assignment.
C. Due Date
Optional due date to identify when assignments are overdue.
D. Privacy Settings
Public assignments are for students without Charlala accounts and can only be shared with a direct assignment link. Private assignments should be used when students have Charlala accounts. Private assignments are assigned directly to classes and will appear in the students' dashboards - private assignments will not produce a shareable link.
4. Locate the conversation you want students to interact with and select Add to Assignment. You may also select the grey eye button to preview the conversation before adding it to the
5. Change the assignment's feedback settings and select Next at the bottom. These settings can be changed later on.A. Text Feedback
Text feedback is optional and allows you to provide written feedback/comments for student responses.
B. Rubric Feedback
Rubric feedback is also optional and allows you to provide feedback using a rubric.
C. Choose a Rubric
Choose the rubric you want to use for feedback. This option is only visible if rubric feedback is selected.
D. Feedback Style
Choose whether you want to provide feedback on the overall assignment or for each individual question/prompt (e.g., a conversation with 5 prompts will have 5 separate places for written and/or rubric feedback). This option is only visible if you are providing text and/or rubric feedback.
6. Complete the final assignment settings and select Create at the bottom.A. Record Student Video
This setting is currently disabled - only student audio will be recorded.
B. Show Transcript
This will make the prompt transcript visible to students. This setting will not affect the transcript visibility during teacher feedback.
C. Allow Student Preview
This setting will enable students to review their recordings before submission. This will not automatically allow students to delete their recordings and rerecord.
D. Allow Multiple Attempts
This setting is only available if student preview is selected. Allowing multiple attempts will allow students to delete their recordings are rerecord before submitting. Although our system will track how many attempts the student takes per prompt/question, enabling this option will give students an unlimited number of attempts. There is currently no way to limit the number of student attempts.
7. Congratulations! You successfully created a simulated conversation assignment. If you created a Public assignment, you may copy and share the link with your students. For Private assignments, there is an option to assign the assignment to one or multiple classes.
