How to Create a Conversation

1. Select My Library from the top menu bar and then select Conversations from the dropdown menu.

2. From your conversation library, select Create Conversation in the top right.

3. Complete the required conversation information and then select Next at the bottom.

A. Conversation Name
The conversation name should identify the activity so you can easily attach it to an assignment. The conversation name is required.

B. Language
The language identifier helps organize the conversations by language in your library, a department library, and the Charlala Library (if submitted).

C. Level
Similar to the language identifier, the level identifier helps organize the conversation in libraries.

D. Student Response Limit
By default, students will have unlimited time to respond to each question. Change the student response limit to change the default response time. You can customize the response time for each individual question later on.

E. Submit to Charlala Library
Content submitted to the Charlala Library will be reviewed and potentially published to Charlala's community library. Accepted content will be public for all teachers to see and use with their students. All content accepted to the library can be removed by the content author at any time. The content, however, will remain available for users that previously attached the content to an assignment for 14 additional days. The original author cannot edit content accepted to the library or during the 14-day removal window.

4. Adjust the recording settings to record audio only or audio with video and then select Record at the bottom. Please note, if you choose to upload media from your device, only .mp3 audio files and .mp4 video files are compatible at this time.

5. Record your audio/video prompt and select Stop at the bottom. Please note, your recording should only contain a single question or prompt. This is different than previous versions.

6. Wait for your recording to process (this may take a minute). You may now review the recording, delete and rerecord, add a transcript, or adjust the student response time.

A. Question Playback and Number
Select the play button to playback the recording. You may also adjust the number to change the order of questions if desired.

B. Transcript
Adding a transcript is optional. The transcript can be optionally displayed for students during assignments. The transcript also makes grading/feedback easier as the prompt is immediately visible for teachers.

C. Response Time
The response time is how many seconds the student will have to respond to each question.

D. Delete
If you're unhappy with the recording, select the red delete button on the right of each question/prompt. Deleting a question/prompt cannot be undone.

7. After adding your first question/prompt, you may Add Questions, Save the conversation, or Delete the conversation.

A. Add Questions
You may add up to 15 questions/prompts for each conversation. Select Add Questions and repeat steps 5-6.

B. Save
Select Save after you're finished adding questions/prompts. Your conversation will be added to your conversation library.

C. Delete
Select Delete to permanently delete this conversation and all linked questions/prompts. This action cannot be undone.

8. Congratulations! After selecting Save, the conversation will be added to your conversation library. Please read the article below, How to Create a Conversation Assignment, to attach your conversation to an assignment for students.
